WARNING! HD Collection Has A Lot of Tech Issues! [UPDATE]

This title really should have been delayed again. Fans with both PS3 and Xbox 360 copies are reporting both frame rate issues and audio problems though from the reports on NeoGAF PS3 owners unfortunately seem to have the bulk of these issues:

brandonh83 on NeoGAF

oh my fuckin god

SH2 is completely unplayable

-stuttering
-freezing to the point of having to restart the game
-framerate is all over the place
-lip syncing is off in cutscenes
-music audibly stops and re-starts during cutscenes
I make James run and without changing what I’m doing, he will walk, go back to running, walk, etc.

FUCK KONAMI YOU INCOMPETENT IDIOTS THIS IS AN 11 YEAR OLD GAME

Is it my system? I’ve been playing other games today with no problems whatsoever.

Luckily it looks like this won’t be a problem for long as Tomm Hulett responded on NeoGAF that a PS3 patch was on the way shortly:

Don’t panic – PS3 being patched shortly.

I’m upset too guys.

The patch fixes the synch/framerate/sound issues in the PS3 version. If you don’t like the arranged music, turning off 5.1 should revert to classic (regardless of Voice selection).

Patch should be up shortly–sorry I don’t have an exact date. But it’ll be days/week as opposed to months.

Try not to enjoy RE too much in the meantime : /

(This post is the opinion of Tomm personally and does not reflect Konami or its partners)

EDIT:(issues won’t be present in EU release)

As for me I’ve only played through the Xbox 360 version of Silent Hill 2 HD and I’ve noticed annoying problems with the game’s audio and some glaring texture errors too. The music, the radio, and James’ heavy breathing after running (oh God he sounds like he’s mechanical D: it’s awful!) is not looping properly. I’ve also noticed missing sounds (like the fog horn going under SHHS) and some sounds are way too loud like Eddie’s running in the meat locker. Even some of the songs sounded wrong/incomplete to me, for example the “Heaven’s Night” track sounded like it was missing a few notes. I’ll have to listen again when I’m less tired maybe I’m remembering the song incorrectly…but it sounded off. (It was like that in the original I was tired)

I was also pretty sad to see that the roads in Silent Hill 2 looked way too clean but I would have been able to overlook this bad texture choice if it wasn’t for the previously mentioned glaring audio issues along with the missing fog in the conversation with Maria by the the lake and the awful, AWFUL looking water while crossing Lake Toluca! Also…what’s with the FMV? It doesn’t look HD at all. They are blurry and thanks to the grain filter over them they look even more low res. They looked better on my PS2. 🙁

Luckily, I dd not have the shuddering and frame rate issues like those with PS3s but I haven’t played through Silent Hill 3 yet. I’ll let you guys know if I have any problems in that department with that game.

I really hope there is a Xbox patch too.

I have to be honest guys, this collection so far is a disappointment for me. I had very high hopes with what I saw back in September and it breaks my heart it’s so broken in certain areas. A lot of the visuals are very good though (outside of the too clean road!), and it still is a big step up in clarity from the PS2. A lot of the hidden details really do pop in this version….ugh I just wish the audio wasn’t so funky!

Have any of you guys encountered similar problems? How IGN could have given this a 9/10 I have no idea. I don’t think they played it.

UPDATE-Konami released a patch for PS3

Xbox Magazine Review: HD Collection (7/10)

Posted By: Whitney   March 7th, 2012 | 9:36 pm

I picked up the Official Xbox Magazine this evening hoping for a Downpour review but instead found a review for the HD Collection. Unfortunately this review didn’t really focus on the new things HD Collection brought to the table instead it was mainly a review of Silent Hill 2/3 as if they had come out today. So Basically the game got a 7/10 because it played like Silent Hill 2/3 from years ago…

In a nutshell: Uh yes it’s still clunky combat and you have to do boring stuff like backtrack for keys and crap. 😉 (Also the reviewer person vaguely spoils the one of the most “WTF” scenes in Silent Hill 3)

Gamespot: HD Collection Review and Videos

Posted By: Whitney   March 7th, 2012 | 9:35 pm

Gamespot gives the Silent Hill HD Collection a “Good” rating of 7/10.

http://www.gamespot.com/silent-hill-hd-collection/reviews/silent-hill-hd-collection-review-6364629/

The Good
HD visuals reveal extra detail
New, well-done voice acting for Silent Hill 2
Both games are as freaky as ever.

The Bad
Performance dips in crowded environments.

Both games look great. The high-definition visuals let you pick up on small details, such as shop signs and the deformities of a monster’s face, that were easy to miss in the original games. Fog remains prevalent but has been pushed back to reveal more of the scenery. The lighting effects have also been improved. Previously, darkness was darkness: black, oppressive, and nearly impossible to see through without the intense beam of your flashlight. Now the darkness isn’t as thick, and the light sources have been softened to make everything easier on the eyes.
Silent Hill 3 doesn’t include any audio annoyances, but what it does have is frame-rate lag. This typically occurs in large, open areas with lots of enemies. Everything eases into slow motion until you either kill the monsters or duck into a new area. This problem isn’t exclusive to Silent Hill 3, but since Silent Hill 2 has more claustrophobic environments with fewer enemies, it doesn’t occur as often in James’ neck of the woods. By no measure do these performance dips render either game unplayable, but they are noticeable.

I’m worried about Silent Hill 3’s frame rate lag mentioned in the review…also regarding the comparison video uh… WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE FOG AND THE FILTER LIGHTING IN SILENT HILL 3?!

Seriously…I don’t remember it looking that different back in September. Sure Cj and I ran through earlier builds but man, neither game looked that washed out! Yikes! What happen between now and then Konami?!

Well I’m getting the game regardless, I holding on to hope that the strange missing fog and lighting won’t be so bad when I play it in person on the 20th. 🙁

They also have a video of Douglas and Heather’s meeting at the mall:

I think the voices are fine but from the comments it looks like a lot of fans aren’t happy. What do you guys think?

Posted By: Whitney   March 4th, 2012 | 12:31 pm

French Xbox achievement list site, Succesfull, has uploaded all the achievements in Silent Hill HD and Downpour. I didn’t look at Downpour’s list in fear of spoilers but I just want to point out that I love the Sailor Moon reference in Silent Hill 3’s “Princess Heart” costume achievement: “Where’s Luna?”

Check out the EU Display Only Cases for HD Collection and Downpour

Posted By: Whitney   February 24th, 2012 | 10:13 am

Hell Descent forum poster Twoback spotted these game display cases in a GAME retail store today! I can’t believe the release days are almost here.

Sure this is not much in the way of news but I thought it was neat to finally see the back of the EU box art! I got to say I find it funny that back art of the HD Collection is just filled with Silent Hill 2 concept art and screens. No love for Silent Hill 3 Konami marketing eh?

So far there’s still no official word on the Konami Europe website about Downpour release date outside of March 2012 but the HD Collection is still listed as a March 16, 2012 release. I have a feeling though that with the confirmation of HD Collection delay in the US that the release date will most likely change.

Twoback unfortunately had no luck getting any info from the GAME employees:

I couldnt squeeze any info out of the staff at all, apart from the usual, please keep checking instore and on our website. Game site still says March 16th.

Konami – HD Collection Out March 20, 2012 [Update]

Posted By: Whitney   February 23rd, 2012 | 1:12 am

Dreadcentral posted a press release from Konami regarding all the Silent Hill goodness coming next month and it confirmed that the HD Collection release has been delayed until March 20.

From the Press Release

KONAMI’s Silent Hill franchise has captivated fans for more than a decade selling over 6 Million copies worldwide. Silent Hill transcends media platforms being a hit comic book series, numerous soundtracks from rock icons like KORN and a favorite of fright film aficionados with the Silent Hill movie in 2006 and the upcoming sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D starring Sean Bean (Eddard Stark, Game of Thrones), Carrie Ann Moss (Gertrude, Chuck), and Malcolm McDowell.

Silent Hill Highlights for March

  • March 13 – Silent Hill Downpour: Double the dementia with the release of Silent Hill Downpour game and soundtrack. Silent Hill Downpour follows the story of Murphy Pendleton, a convicted felon, who finds himself trapped in Silent Hill after his prison transport bus crashes. Silent Hill Downpour is the most expansive Silent Hill to date, as players can embark on side missions, explore the town and piece more of the mystery of Silent Hill together.
  • March 20 – Silent Hill HD Collection: Experience the most fearful flashback ever with the Silent Hill HD Collection. Serving as a tribute to the core Silent Hill fans by taking the most famous games of the series, Silent Hill 2 & 3, and re-mastering them in high-definition graphics and adding new voiceovers.
  • March 27 – Silent Hill Book of Memories: There’s no escaping the terror the fearful final Silent Hill release, with Silent Hill Book of Memories, available exclusively for the brand new PlayStation®Vita handheld device. Silent Hill Book of Memories will torment you wherever you go. The all-new game in the Silent Hill series, with a unique premise and storyline with the story beginning with a strange book that is received; inside that book is your entire life story and all of your memories. You discover that by altering what’s written you can actually change the past. You can write your own ideal history. And for the first time ever in a Silent Hill game, it will support multiplayer, so friends can share in the fright in a co-op mode.
  • Silent Hill Downpour soundtrack composed by Award-winning composer Daniel Licht, best known for his Dexter scores, and featuring the title track “Silent Hill” by Jonathan Davis, from Korn, also hits shelves.

[UPDATE]
Konami has also updated their Silent Hill splash page with the new date.

Silent Hill HD Collection Delayed Again? Amazon Says Yes

Posted By: Whitney   February 19th, 2012 | 12:21 pm

Well this isn’t very good news. I received an email in my inbox this morning stating:

The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

“Silent Hill HD Collection”
Release date: March 20, 2012
Estimated arrival date: March 20, 2012

No word from Amazon on how this will affect their $5 credit bonus towards Downpour/Book of Memories for pre-ordering as the original the bonus description is still listed on the product page. The problem is the $5 credit code will only be e-mailed within two days after the HD Collection ships. Since Downpour is out on the 13th, a week before HD Collection’s new release date, there’s no possible way we can use the $5 credit towards Downpour unless Amazon decides to send out the promo-codes early. I know I’m not waiting to get the game just to save $5!

I would also like to point out that Amazon’s March 20th date is an estimate. For all we know the game could be delayed even further as there hasn’t been an official statement made by Konami about this new delay. I hope we will hear something soon. 🙁
