Xbox Magazine Review: HD Collection (7/10)

I picked up the Official Xbox Magazine this evening hoping for a Downpour review but instead found a review for the HD Collection. Unfortunately this review didn’t really focus on the new things HD Collection brought to the table instead it was mainly a review of Silent Hill 2/3 as if they had come out today. So Basically the game got a 7/10 because it played like Silent Hill 2/3 from years ago…

In a nutshell: Uh yes it’s still clunky combat and you have to do boring stuff like backtrack for keys and crap. 😉 (Also the reviewer person vaguely spoils the one of the most “WTF” scenes in Silent Hill 3)

What scene is it that he spoils?

The one right before the final battle.

Why do people dislike back-tracking? That’s what makes survival horrors into survival horrors — As well as Puzzles and horror — and also gives you a lot of freedom, I feel. Plus you never know what you’ll encounter when you head back there. Overall, I thought that reviewer missed the point entirely; I didn’t like it, he was just ranting about how the games don’t control like a modern game (What do you expect? They’re 10 years old!). It also strikes me as if he wanted Silent Hill 3 to be a clone of Silent Hill 2.

I for one can’t say I care about what some OXM dudebro dislikes about the games. They really should have had actual fan review the visual and audio upgrades available in the collection, these games have been out for years and complaining about the backtracking or combat is pretty stupid.
