In this twenty-eighth episode I will be discussing last week’s heartbreaking news that Silent Hills is cancelled with fellow Silent Hill fans.
Well like Silent Hills, P.T. is officially gone. (on the US PSN atm)
Last week, a day after P.T.’s de-listing, Eurogamer tested to see if P.T. could be recovered if deleted from a PS4 and found to fan’s relief that, yes, P.T. remained in your downloads for re-download if you had the demo on your PS4.
Well this isn’t the case anymore.
Last night news broke that P.T. has been eradicated from PSN servers.
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Konami is doing their best to make any and all references to Silent Hills obsolete and it will officially become a game I used to know.

Early this morning Konami gave an official statement to Kotaku regarding Silent Hills fate:
In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.
Sad news to be sure, but hey at least now it’s officially canned.
Now we know…
Such a shame, the P.T. demo stirred up excitement from fans and the general public alike and showed a promising new direction for the series. I guess at this point all we can do now is wait and see what Konami has in store though, if I’m honest, despite Konami’s assurances, the fate of the series continuing seems rather grim to me.
Oh well. The hype was nice while it lasted eh?
If you haven’t already be sure to download the P.T. demo off PSN before it’s taken down April 29,2015, it is well worth the playthrough and imagine what could have been…

Don’t drag this out any longer.
The signs are all there: Kojima is leaving, P.T. is being pulled from PSN, and now this sad quote regarding Silent Hills from Guillermo del Toro during the San Francisco International Film Festival last night:
Will you just confirm that Silent Hills is cancelled already? 🙁
[Update]
Apparently the Guillermo quote that was passed around today was taken a bit out of context. The “it’s not going to happen” was in regards to collaborating with Kojima, not whether or not the game has been cancelled. As of right now Silent Hills’ status remains up in the air. This is the time to say something one way or another Konami. 🙁
Well this really, really, sucks.
News broke this afternoon on various FB fan pages that the P.T. Demo will be taken off the PSN marketplace April 29, 2015.
Alchemilla Hospital reports that this sort of removal is pretty common since Sony charges the companies a fee for the downloads so demos have limited distribution periods and are routinely removed from PSN.
Now if you are like me without access to a a PS4 there may still be a chance to download the demo even after the distribution period expires. When Alchemilla Hospital broke the news on their FB page Christopher John Karl Green left this comment:
It may be a long shot but if you have no way of obtaining a PS4 before the 29th it’s worth a try. It looks like I will have to bite the bullet and buy a PS4 now rather than later. 🙁
In this twenty-seventh episode I will be discussing this week’s shocking announcement that video game designer and former Vice President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Hideo Kojima is leaving the publisher and what this might mean for Silent Hills future.
During the Konami showcase event at Tokyo Game Show 2014 we were treated to a a P.T. video concept showing a walk through another terror filled hallway. A lot of disturbing imagery was packed into such a short teaser and it’s definitely got the fanbase excited!
To tell you guys the truth I’m not quite sure how I feel about this little video. On one hand it had it has some disturbing visuals very in-line with what we’ve come to expect from Silent Hill a school shrouded in darkness and everything going to hell within a mere seconds. There was definitely a lot of WTF moments too like centipedes busting out of the walls and bodies and a door slamming into a wall and forming a new exit. Completely bizarre occurences but fits right at home within a title like Silent Hill. Additionally the graphics in the concept were stellar, I especially looooved the lighting when the tiny toys were whirling on the ground… who would have thought such the cheery rainbow colors could come off so sinisterly?
There was definitely a lot I liked within so why am I unsure how I feel about this video? Ultimately I think it was the pace of the presentation. With everything popping out like a haunted house everything was too in your face. Now I don’t think Silent Hills will be some action fest or haunted house considering the excellent buildup to the disturbing bits in P.T. I think what happened here was that they wanted to show off all their cool ideas in such a short time frame. Additionally I found some of the scares to be a bit overt like something I would associate more with a Resident Evil title. A large creature suddenly appearing and chasing you down a hall after sucking/biting a head off a naked body didn’t leave much to the imagination…and the use of centipedes, while disturbing, unfortunately brought to mind the viral mutations of seen in Resident Evil 5 when tentacles often started sprouting.
Again, this is only a concept so I’m not really worried right now even with my little gripes. I was really impressed with the imagery and pacing of P.T. so this short little concept hasn’t made my excitement wane much!
Additionally Gamespot reports that Kojima stated during the event that the team was looking at how television seasons were scheduled and considering a similar format for the game. Could this mean Silent Hills could be released in an episodic format like Telltale’s The Walking Dead? It could be pretty interesting if each episode was it’s own little story (like the Twilight Zone!) and would be a great way to tie into the whole multiple “Silent Hills”. Personally, I wouldn’t want one large story broken up but given that the game is still in development and episodes are only a consideration at this point I’m not going to worry right now!
Even though this latest video didn’t knock my socks off I’m super excited to see more of what Kojima and Co have in mind for Silent Hills! 😀
What about you guys, what did you think of the concept video? Did you get Resident Evil vibes from some of the imagery and the pacing too? What do you think of the idea of an episodic Silent Hills?
