New Let’s Play Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Videos! Over an hour of footage of me plowing through the Midwich High School level! Sorry about the long wait and my voice I was ill this past weekend and I was out of the state the previous week. I hope to have regular updates until completion every week…depends how long editing and playing takes! 🙂

My Silent Hill Let’s Play

Posted By: Whitney   February 22nd, 2010 | 8:30 am

I’ve started recording a Let’s Play of SHSM. In this let’s play I will show you where you can find all the mementos, echo photos/messages and phone numbers in game and try and point out all the character and place variations I’ve found through my own play throughs. Additionally I will point out any homages or tie backs to previous Silent Hill titles. I hope you guys enjoy!

I’m still recording and editing but I’ve uploaded the beginning and woods stages. Let me know what you think!

PSP Version of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Posted By: Whitney   January 28th, 2010 | 2:11 pm

Okay I played a bit of the PSP version last night and I got it say it look like much more effort was put into this over the PS2. The controls are pretty much like the PS2 version but I did notice whenever I took out the camera phone I could only move it side to side and zoom in.

As for the graphics there were items missing from several areas but overall it looked more polished than the ps2 version. I wish I could take screens but I have an older PSP and I can’t take recordings from it 🙁 But here are some things that jumped out at me in comparison to the PS2 version:

– in the PSP version a lot of the ice was translucent…meaning we could clearly see the monsters in the alley which wasn’t the case with the PS2 version.

– More details in the environments. Items were removed but the items that stayed had added details. I’m not sure if the smaller screen had something to do with it but overall the graphics looked richer on the PSP. For example in Theresa’s with the red prom dress their were more details on the mannequin and a drawing of a red dress was added to “Formal dress, Good as new, worn once” poster. So even though the details in the actual dress were about the same as the PS2 version the total environment looked fuller.

– When I colored the happy family I noticed the pencils in the PSP version were on the right instead of the left.

– There was snow falling outside the windows while riding in Cybil’s car.

To me it looks like the PS2 is a port of the PSP version…which just seems bizarre… you think it would be the other way around. It’s like Climax decided to make the PS2 version at the last minute and weren’t able to add quite as much polish.

So in my opinion if you are going to play SH:SM:

Wii > PSP > PS2

SH:SM Official Blog Update – Re-Imagine your Expectations (plus a comparison by me)

New blog post by Tomm discusses what one should expect while playing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories…I bet this is in response to all the critics upset to find that Climax wasn’t lying…it isn’t a straight remake.

I’m not sure why so many critics claim there’s nothing like the original Silent Hill there are A LOT of parallels and it’s not just the names.

Who beat Silent Hill Shattered Memories? I did!

Posted By: Whitney   December 5th, 2009 | 4:04 pm

Wow I didn’t think I would be able to beat it being such a wii-tard but I did! Man it was such a fun game. I’m going to have to replay to get all the endings, echos and mementos so I’ll definitely get my money’s worth.

Overall there’s lots of nice nods to the original! I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone so I’ll wait to write all my thoughts until after the game is “officially” released next week….I just got to say this though (might be spoilerish since it regards the ending but I will be very vague (highlight if you want to read):

Overall I agree with IGN’s review. The game was beautiful with a lot of little details, the flashlight worked wonderful once I got the hang of the controls!

BTW Silent Hill: Shattered Memories > Silent Hill Homecoming by far

My first impressions! [updated: hey I’m not a complete wii-tard anymore!]

Posted By: Whitney   December 3rd, 2009 | 9:36 pm

Okay! played a little. It looks really nice, the voice acting is great in my opinion…I just got to get use to the controls. This is really my first time using a wii more then 2 seconds and I’m quite the “wii-tard.” I’m still trying to get through the first otherworld bit- but so far I’m liking it a lot despite my controlling problems! I’m a little thankful I got this a bit early so I have a chance to hone my wii skillz. Hopefully I’ll get over this learning curve quickly (like I did with the weird new controls for RE5) and search and run like a pro.

You want an idea on how bad I am? IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO GET THE FRIGGIN KEY OUT OF THE CAN. Seriously, I don’t know what I was doing but I had the hardest time turning the can upside down…those walkthroughs made it look so easy! I really suck using the wii-mote!

BTW as a new wii user the pop up hints were very useful. I barely know all the buttons and I wouldn’t of known what the heck to do when monsters started grabbing me.

Now I just got to figure out which hand to hold the flashlight in! I’m a lefty and I keep switching…”do I want the light in my dominate hand or the running controls?” Good thing I grew up with a bunch of rightys so I’m used to doing a lot of things with my right hand!

I assume once I find my flow this will all be easier (probably won’t die every few seconds!) but hey I AM HAVING FUN ON A WII despite my wii-tardness…. THIS IS AMAZING (cause I loathed the wii for this very reason before).

Okay off to try to make it to Levin Street again 🙂

[update 12/04/2009 12:30am]
Hey guys I wanted to let you know that the tips for wii playing REALLY helped! I’m making great progress now and Harry isn’t flailing around quite as much 🙂 I’m still a little wii-tarded but not as horrible as last night! So I just wanted to say thanks 🙂

I’m still dying a lot in the nightmare world because I get lost and the monsters eventually wear Harry down. I haven’t gotten the hang of using the wayward point on my phone so at the moment I’m just RUNNING, RUNNING, RUNNING oh that’s new! *die* repeat.

BTW those blue outlines definitely do not lead you to “safety” like a lot of fans assumed. The last nightmare sequence I went through I ended up going in a big fat circle! Harry kept getting turned around and I found myself back at the start a couple times!
