Well this is pretty awesome! In addition to their portal website Konami now has an official Silent Hill Shattered Memories blog 🙂 With articles and new tidbits by Tomm Hulett. It’s great to get an insiders view on Silent Hill’s production and promotion. I know I’ll be checking daily!

P.S. Some new screens as well!

P.P.S. According to Tomm there’s a new vocal song “When You’re Gone” I can’t wait to hear it!

Oh and there was a new update made! Think Climax doesn’t care what the fans think? Well you are wrong! 🙂 Looks like Tomm Hulett scopes out the Silent Hill Shattered Memories section on the Silent Hill Heaven forums :

Which is really cool!

Release Date confusion

Posted By: Whitney   October 6th, 2009 | 12:54 pm

UPDATE: Gamestop.com states the game release is now 12/08/09…no official word from Konami but I’ll keep you posted!

There seems to be a lot of people confused about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories release date and there’s been so many wildly different dates stated all over the net. Why is there so much confusion? It stems from the game’s release being delayed:

Back in the summer we were informed that:

Oct 6, 2009 = original strategy guide release date
Oct 13, 2009 = original game release date

When September rolled around some sites began to state a new release time frame and and as far as I know seem to be correct:

Oct 26, 2009 = current strategy guide release date
Nov 3, 2009 = current US/UK(?) game release date

So a lot of people don’t realize the game has been delayed and assume the old dates are true or various game stores haven’t updated their release dates. I’m not not sure if this delay is just for the US and UK but I’m pretty sure if it was delayed here it’s probably delayed in other areas as well…if not well sucks that US and the UK have to wait!

X-Play: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Gameplay Exclusive

Posted By: Whitney   October 5th, 2009 | 5:11 pm

A quick post at the moment! X-play has an exclusive new look at a new Silent Hill Shattered Memories level and a new interview with Tomm Hulett. I haven’t seen it myself since I’m still at work (an hour to go!) but I figure I would at least post the link up. I’ll post more after I get home 🙂

EDIT: Woo finally watched it! I liked what I’ve seen so far. I amazed at how well the voice acting is it’s pretty realistic in my opinion. I also liked how they showed Harry sucessfully hiding and how he can briefly put gaps between him and his pursuers. From what I watched his escape didn’t seem that linear which I think is also really good. I can really see myself getting lost trying to escape. I know people are hammering away about how lame the monsters look at the moment but I think we will be pleasantly surprised when the game comes out. I firmly believe we keep seeing these fleshy ones in everything so the surprise won’t be ruined! After watching these videos I’m just more pumped for the game to come out!

Things learned:

– Bears are kinda creepy even if they don’t *do* anything
– Harry visits some cabins in Lake Toluca…looks like someone wasn’t having a very good vacation for a number of reasons.
– I wonder if Harry just stopped and gave those guys a hug they desperately seem to want they would leave him alone? 😉
– Harry receives clues on his cellphone and can interact with various supporting characters. Even though the phone seemed rather odd when I first heard about it I’m really warming up to it. Somehow I find hearing people’s voices from the past is a little more chilling than just reading a note. It would be really cool if the phone started to capture EVP quality voices! Overall I definitely felt more like an intruder to a private moment listening in than then I did reading reading notes!

X-Play brings you an exclusive look at a new level of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories!

On tonight’s X-Play, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Producer Tom Hewlett talked about Shattered Memories, the game’s storyline, how it uses the flashlight and phone during gameplay and the game’s ability to build psychological player profiles based on in-game decisions.

However, you should hear what he has to say yourself by watching the video below. Then hit the cut and check out exclusive, uncut gameplay footage of a never before scene level of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories!

Kotaku’s Silent Hill: Shattered Memories PSP TGS ’09 Hands-On

Posted By: Whitney   September 29th, 2009 | 4:52 pm

Michael McWhertor from Kotaku.com had a much better time trying the PSP version of Silent Hill Shattered Memories on the PSP at the Tokyo Game show ’09. It sounds like he was able to explore more of the game than just the initial chase sequence!

Kotaku’s Silent Hill: Shattered Memories PSP Hands-On

Konami and Climax’s re-imagining of the first Silent Hill is a risky prospect, a wildly different take on the PlayStation horror classic. As a fan of the series, the remixed, retold Silent Hill: Shattered Memories just felt… unnecessary.

That was until I had played through the Tokyo Game Show demo.

The section we were coaxed into playing by the helpful Konami staff involved one of the game’s chase sequences, a heart-pounding and smart addition to the game. The series isn’t generally known for its action qualities, but the mad dash through the altered streets of Silent Hill added a new kind of fear, helped by some interesting mechanics.

It took a few moments to get accustomed to the new controls—I hadn’t yet played the Wii version of Shattered Memories, mind you. Players control Harry Mason with the analog nub, switching to flashlight (read: camera) controls by holding the right shoulder button. More interesting to me was what the left shoulder button does: look over your shoulder. Not particularly innovative, but it helps seal the fear of something quietly lurking behind you.

My first attempt at playing the game met with failure. After hopping over a wall—one of Harry’s new moves—I ran into a few of Silent Hill’s fleshy, mutated denizens.

They quickly piled on top of me, my only option to elbow them off with a press of one of the face buttons. They’re mapped to the location from which you’re attacked. If something’s grabbing onto you from the left, press the square button at the right time. From behind, tap X. Getting double-teamed? You’ll have to hit both buttons when the on-screen indicator pops up. Unfortunately, I didn’t figure this all out until my second attempt, attempting to figure out where my bludgeoning implement was.

Eventually I figured out that I was supposed to run like hell, not fiddle with the cell phone and GPS device Harry sports in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. So I ran, guided by walls of nearly clear ice, shouldering my way through blue-tinted doors at full speed. I’d made the mistake earlier in the demo to slowly open of Silent Hill’s many closed doors, which one can do by pushing slightly on the analog stick after grabbing the doorknob.

Really, after finding my rhythm and getting an eye for where each door would be, running like a madman was all I did. With enemies difficult to see in the dark and the fear of hordes of Silent Hill’s demons bearing down on you, it’s the best thing one can do.

Granted, chase sequences, while interesting, do not a quality remake… make. But the smart implementation of these moments helped me get over my own fear of slogging through the streets of Silent HIll again. Another minor thing that won me over were the visuals. While not mind-blowing—it is the PSP after all—it looked sharp and I dug the VHS tape tracking-like visual effect.

We’ll know how good the final game will be when it ships this November.

Silent Hill Haunted Attraction Preview

Posted By: Whitney   September 28th, 2009 | 12:20 pm

Theme Park Adventure’s 365 Days of Halloween was able to get a sneak preview of Sinister Pointe’s Silent Hill Haunted House. So far it doesn’t look like there’s anything from Silent Hill Shattered Memories I’m just seeing imagery from Silent Hill Homecoming and the Silent Hill movie!

Something Sinister Comes this Way

By Rick West

“The second maze at Sinister Point is going to be its signature piece… Silent Hill.

Silent Hill, in case you don’t know, is based on both the film and the wildly-popular video games by Konami Digital Entertainment. Trapped in a surreal world of bizarre settings and horrible creatures, guests will find themselves smack-dab in the middle of the Silent Hill world – and then some. If you haven’t yet seen the film, or played the video games, you may want to as “research”, because just about every inch of this maze is straight out of the Silent Hill legacy. I personally have only seen the film, as I suck miserably at video games. But after being walked through this attraction, I would love to sit down in a quiet room with the lights off and play the game non-stop. That is good news for Konami, because I’m sure I won’t be the only person feeling this way.

And for those wondering, yeah, the support that Jeff has gotten from Konami is huge. They are all-in, and that has made Jeff’s life much easier in bringing this maze to life. The synergy is exciting and great for both companies – but trust me when I say that the Silent Hill maze is anything but a blatant commercial for Konami. Silent Hill is a gorgeous, very spooky maze that will no doubt, scare the hell out of visitors.

Expect to see some of your favorite scenes from both the film and the video games as you explore the world of Silent Hill. And yes, guests will come face-to-face with Pyramid Head. In fact, Jeff and his crew have gone to great lengths to bring the world of Silent Hill to life for their guests – and the buzz has been fantastic. There are even Silent Hill fanatics flying in from other states to experience this attraction – that says a lot for the faith that people have in Jeff and it shows how dedicated the Silent Hill fan base is.

Jeff promises terror in abundance, absolute detail to the Silent Hill properties and assures us that you’ll all be shocked by some of the elements they’ve incorporated into this attraction! Theme Park Adventure echoes that statement completely.”

I’m going myself in October so I’ll be sure to let you know what I think as a Silent Hill fan 🙂
