Happy Birthday to my favorite Silent Hill game and the series. I can’t believe it’s been 14 years!
Hey guys and Happy New Year!
2012 sure had a lot of ups and downs for the Silent Hill fandom. Love it or hate it it was still a very exciting year with the release of 3 games and a movie!
We have a lot of cool Silent Hill things to look forward to in 2013 though. For official stuff we have Toymunkey’s Pyramid Head and nurse statue, the Downpour IDW comic with Anne’s back story by Tom Waltz, and the video release of Silent Hill Revelation.
There’s lots of fan projects still in the works as well including the Silent Hill: Rebirth fan game, Twinperfect’s TRSHE continuation, The upcoming Grate Debate documentary and new fan sites like My Silent Hill to keep an eye on!
I will of course continue to work on this site and podcast and bring you the latest Silent Hill news!
I’m looking forward to seeing what this new year brings! 🙂
Now we all know there’s a lot of talent in the Silent Hill fandom whether it’s through cosplay, fan art, animation or even fan games. I’m always interested to see how the Silent Hill series inspires fellow fans creatively.
Well for Silent Hill (and Deadly Premonition fan!) Brian Wood the games have been a big influence on his first book series, The Analyst.
The average American encounters eight supernatural beings in a given week. 98% of these occurrences go unnoticed. One in fifty paranormal happenings are aggressive in nature, and of these, only 5% are ever reported. As an Analyst for the Department of Paranormal Study and Defense, Tom Bell’s job is to respond to that 5%.
The Analyst is a horrific journey of the human soul, rebuking the vampire- and zombie-infested mainstream to take you on a suffocating descent into psychological terror. Join D.P.S.D. Agent Thomas Bell as he and his fellow operatives spiral into the secret hells of our world.
The Analyst will lead you from the underground Medium clubs of Tokyo to the hidden voodoo colonies of New Orleans, and through impossible nightmare worlds born in the darkest depths of a broken human mind.
Dig deep, and don’t look back.
What I found really interesting is some of the praise the for his first book in the series, Dead Roots, cited on Brian’s blog is often given to describe the awesomeness of the Silent Hill series 🙂
Given that people are praising The Analyst series so far for it’s emphasis on psychological terror and and the emphasis on the “journey of the human soul” as a Silent Hill fan it does sound right up my alley! I’m looking forward to giving the Dead Roots a read as well as the newly released second novel in the series, Blood Mother!
Dead Roots (Volume 1) is available as an ebook on Amazon for $2.99 (paper back coming soon!)
After a routine arrest-and-exorcise op goes wrong, Tom finds himself having one hell of a week. What is the connection between the entity and rich paranormal broker Harold Saldana? Who is the seductive woman he meets at Mirror, Tokyo’s premier club for the professional possessed? Why is he having nightmares about a single tree in the desert?
And how much of this will matter when a horror from Tom’s past literally comes back to haunt him?
Blood Mother (Volume 2) is available as an ebook on Amazon for $2.99
When a botched encounter leads to aggression from the barbaric Dry Ones of Louisiana, Tom heads to New Orleans to plead his case. There he finds himself embroiled in a brutal power struggle between the colony’s two leaders: pragmatic Judge Berenger, and bloodthirsty Archbishop Hatcher. With Keda growing increasingly unstable, old threats from Tokyo rearing their heads, and the mounting tension between the Dry Ones, Agent Bell will have to pull out all the stops to get out of here in one recognizable piece.
The nightmares are back, and they’re telling of a terrible power growing deep in the swamp…
The Toymunkey Studios Facebook page as been a buzz the last few days about the upcoming release of the Red Pyramid Thing statue. The statue has been release in Japan for the last few weeks (and there’s been several on auction sites for $200 + for sale) but there hasn’t been much information where we can put in our pre-orders domestically.
I contacted Toymunkey last night asking where fans can start placing their orders and I was informed that domestic retailers are starting to advertise the statue for sale and most comic and toy shops should have it for pre-order right now and that Tokymunkey will have a full list of retailers up on their site by the end of the year.
A list will be detailed on the site hopefully by the end of the year.
I’ve done some googling and have found the statue up for pre-order on these comic shop/toy sites so far:

Last week Silent Hill Downpour and Past Life writer Tom Waltz teased an upcoming Downpour prequel comic from IDW. We don’t have much information at the moment…not even a title but we do know it’s about Anne’s side of the story. I’ll let you know when I have more information 😀

Sorry I’m playing catch up here with the Silent Hill news XD I posted these pics of the Japanese packaging for the upcoming Pyramid Head statue over on the facebook page last week but neglected to post them here as well!
This packaging features a brand new Pyramid Head painting by Silent Hill 2/3 creature designer Masahiro Ito and it also doubles as a display! This box opens up to display a backdrop featuring infamous 9 save point symbol seen both on the original Japanese Silent Hill 2 cover art and right before the final showdown with the big guy!
I really hope we can get the same packaging here when the statue is released here in the US by Toymunkey!

Hey guys I learned some bad news last night about a really great and brave Silent Hill fan Brandon Delacruz. SHHS visitors may remember him as my first Descent into the Other World interviewee back in 2011.
Brandon suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. Playing Silent Hill 2 has inspired him to not only be a better person but has also gave him solace during his frequent hospital stays.
Yesterday he announced on his Facebook page that in mid-July his doctor told him he only has 6 months to 1 year left to live. I hope you will all keep him in your thoughts and prayers. I know he and his family will be in mine.
Brandon now has a site with more details a donation button! Please check it out you guys 🙂

I will make sure to keep you guys all up to date on Brandon as well!
Toymunkey Studios just sent me some new pictures of their upcoming Pyramid Head statue along with the vague holiday season release date. He looks fabulous, I look forward to adding him to my collection! 🙂 Are you guys planning on purchasing the statue when it is released at the end of the year?

Well this is rathering interesting at Eurogame Expo Hideo Kojima said that the President of Konami has personally asked him to make the next Silent Hill game. What do you guys think?
Honestly, I’m kind of a scaredy-cat when it comes to horror movies, so I’m not confident I can do it. At the same time, there’s a certain type of horror that only people who are scared of can create, so maybe it’s something I can do.
That said, I think Silent Hill has a certain atmosphere. I think it has to continue, and I’d love to help it continue, and if I can help by supervising or lending the technology of the Fox Engine, then I’d love to participate in that respect.”
It will be interesting to see what he does with the series. Hey! Maybe now with Kojima involved Konami would market the hell out of the series like they do with Metal Gear? 😉
Source (Eurogamer.net thanks Ashley Vendoc) Big thanks to SHH for tweeting about this earlier and bringing it to my attention!
