Silent Hill HD Collection Coming to Xbox 360? [Update- It’s not]

Posted By: Whitney   August 2nd, 2011 | 1:52 pm

UPDATE: Nope, it’s not it’s an PS3 exclusive according to Konami it’s an error on the Gamestop website.

According to Gamestop’s website that seems to be the case as you can pre order the collection for Xbox 360. Konami has said for weeks that this is a Playstation 3 exclusive so I’m wondering if this was posted in error. Hopefully this isn’t the case and Konami has had decided to release the collection on both systems. I will make some inquiries to find out!

Silent Hill HD Collection Comic Con 2011 (Cam) Trailer is a fake

Posted By: Whitney   July 25th, 2011 | 7:11 pm

Looks like the trailer Twin Perfect received from a fan attending Comic Con and uploaded the other day to their youtube channel is not a real Silent Hill HD collection trailer. I received an email this evening from Konami Public Relations which says that the cam trailer in question is “false content that is being portrayed as a real trailer distributed by Konami” and that no Silent Hill trailers were distributed during Comic Con 2011. So it looks like this was a fan made trailer using PC versions of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 with the HD Collection logo added at the end. I have to say this is very disappointing. 🙁

Silent Hill HD Collection – PS2 vs PS3

Posted By: Whitney   July 22nd, 2011 | 2:33 pm

I know there’s people out that claiming how this collection isn’t necessary because the PC versions already look fabulous but I think many are forgetting just how buggy the PC port of the game is and just how pixelated the PS2 versions of both game look now on a HD televisions. I recently finished a SH2 playthrough and I’m playing through SH3 right now and I have to say both games don’t look so hot on my HD television…So if you already own and play the PC versions this collection may not be worth the $30 but if you are like me, a console gamer, and want to see a sharper Silent Hill 2 and 3 this collection is definitely worth a purchase! Check out this video comparing the screens from a PS2 version of Silent Hill with the HD Collection screens….what an improvement!

Silent Hill HD Collection Screens and Logo

Posted By: Whitney   July 21st, 2011 | 3:37 pm

Konami has released two screens and a logo for their upcoming HD collection. I was hoping for a little more but I’ll take what I can get!

I can definitely tell there’s more detail in James’ character model but the textures still look fuzzy to me (it could also be the grain filter) what do you guys think? I’m still curious to see what Silent Hill 3 will look like!

Gamestop Reveals More on the Silent Hill HD Collection

Posted By: Whitney   June 26th, 2011 | 6:22 pm

Gamestop has made a product page for the upcoming Silent Hill HD collection. According to Gamestop the collection will be called “Silent Hill Re-Mastered Collection,” will retail for $39.99 and has a September 20, 2011 release in the US. Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 will both be remastered to HD at 720p with updated in-game voice overs directed by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and have Full PlayStation Network Trophies support integration.

I know I’ll be getting myself a PS3 to check out the upgrades and with the September release it will definitely wet my appetite for Downpour which will release in late October.

Tomm Hulett on Korn in Downpour and HD Collection Being a PS3 Exclusive

Posted By: Whitney   June 17th, 2011 | 5:36 pm

Still catching up on all the Silent Hill news I missed reporting on last week while I was away in the UK (btw I’m finally back home today 🙂 ) I was able to get a couple of E3 related news posts up during my last few days in Scotland since we had internet access where we were staying but now think I’m almost done playing catch up! *phew*

Last week Downpour Senior Associate Producer, Tomm Hulett answered some recent hot button Silent Hill topics to Joystiq such as the reasoning behind the inclusion of Korn in Downpour and the HD Collection’s current PS3 exclustivity.

On Korn Tomm says:

Hulett was sure to point out that longtime Silent Hill contributor Mary Elizabeth McGlynn will also create music for the game. The reasoning behind Korn’s inclusion depended on “a lot of factors,” according to Hulett. “We had our licensing department put feelers out” for groups that would be interested in contributing to the game, he noted. Konami apparently had a few choices, and Korn “made the most sense” to the publisher. “If people don’t like it, they can hit start and skip it,” he said, adding that the song isn’t “thrown down your throat” and that Konami isn’t trying to turn Silent Hill fans into Korn fans.

I mentioned that fans seem to be upset about the song, with some even going so far as to sign a petition for its removal. “I’m a big Silent Hill fan. I can pretty much guess how [fans] are going to react to everything we do,” said Hulett, “I wasn’t wrong on this one, in how they’d react, but I think they should hopefully calm down a little bit.” To further assuage fears, he noted that the song isn’t “an integral part of the gameplay” and won’t be forced on players. “You know, Murphy won’t be listening to Korn, or Korn won’t be playing over a cutscene. It’s nothing like that.

So there you go! Korn in Downpour isn’t going to be the end of the world, it’s easily skipable and won’t potentially to ruin hours of enjoyment in game. 😀 I know when I first heard the news it made me raise an eyebrow but I’m willing to see what they come up with before I make any final decisions on how I feel. This is mainly because I remember thinking “WTF” when Marylin Manson was chosen years ago to score the first RE movie and in the end I was pleasantly surprised and really dug the main title theme!

It’s also nice to also have a firm confirmation that Mary Elizabeth McGlynn will also create music for Downpour. I can’t wait to hear what she does!!!

Moving on to the upcoming Silent Hill Collection, Hulett offered a tiny bit of hope for an eventual multiplatform release for the currently PS3 exclusive compilation. “It’s always been a primarily Sony platform series, so right now we’re just aiming at a Sony exclusive, which isn’t to say in the future it won’t be available anywhere else, but right now it’s Sony exclusive.”

Yay! I hope they also bring it to Xbox 360, it’s a shame it’s a PS3 exclusive at the moment 🙁 but hey I had to buy a PS3 at some point lol!

Silent Hill HD Collection’s New Voice Overs…Guy Cihi Responds

Posted By: Whitney   June 14th, 2011 | 1:33 pm

As I mentioned last week Mary Elizabeth McGlynn will be directing the new voice overs for the HD collection. This comes as a bit of surprise and I had wondered if Guy Cihi will be reprising his role as James Sunderland but unfortunately this doesn’t seem to be the case. The Gaming Liberty.com contacted Cihi and he wasn’t very happy:

“Konami knows that they owe me residuals for all previous unauthorized re-uses of my mocap and vocal performances. It would appear Konami is seeking to avoid further liability by changing the voice in their latest re-use of the SH2 materials. However, if any of my mocap appears in the new release, Konami will be liable for unauthorized reuse of my performance. Like Gump’s momma said, “Stupid is as stupid does.” It would have been much better for everyone had Konami simply made me a reasonable offer…I’ll get around to seeking compensation through the courts one of these days. I simply don’t have the time for it right now. I hope this doesn’t bum out any fans… It’s just business as usual on the production side of games.”

I have to say this makes me pretty sad. Cihi’s performance may not have been the best voice wise, especially compared to later installments, but he still a big part of Silent Hill 2 and I’m sorry to hear there’s some business issues between him and Konami.

This isn’t the first time a past Silent Hill voice actor has had beef with Konami reusing reusing their voice. Thessaly Lerner the voice actress for Lisa Garland in Silent Hill wasn’t compensated for the use of her voice in Silent Hill 3 and Konami reward here with a small settlement and her voice was removed from new releases.

So it seems like there’s more reason than “quality” for recasting the voices. I hope Cihi and Konami can come to some agreement though and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a happy resolution.
