Silent Hill HD Collection PAL Cover Art Revealed [UPDATE – Large XBOX 360 cover]

Posted By: Whitney   October 13th, 2011 | 2:26 pm

Amazon put up a cover art for the PAL Silent Hill HD collection. Looks pretty much like the US cover just with a weird “Classics HD” logo that seems to be on all the HD re releases (Metal Gear, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collections). Though the thumbnail for the XBOX 360 version looks more like the US cover just with the PAL boxart instead of the US ones, but when I click on the page it says the cover art isn’t available still…so who knows that one could be without the “Classics” logo.

Update!

Larger version of the XBOX 360 cover!

Downpour is Officially Delayed

Posted By: Whitney   October 10th, 2011 | 3:12 pm

Konami Europe has confirmed to Eurogamer that Silent Hill Downpour is officially delayed (no big surprise there). According to Konami they will release the game in the first quarter of 2012 in Europe, thought there’s still no word on a US release.

I’m pretty sad since I was looking forward to playing i this year but I don’t mind waiting longer if it will give the game more polish 🙂

Carrie-Anne Moss on Playing Claudia in Silent Hill Revelation

Posted By: Whitney   October 7th, 2011 | 4:50 pm

IFC caught up with Carrie-Anne Moss and talked with her a little about her role as Claudia in the upcoming Silent Hill Revelation movie and filming in 3D. Pretty interesting:

Carrie-Anne Moss, costar of the big-screen adaptation of the video game “Silent Hill: Revelation,” told IFC that she was inundated with information by the filmmakers in preparation for her role as Claudia Wolf, although she avoided playing the actual video game. “They sent me all of this stuff,” Moss said Friday in a telephone interview for her new film “Fireflies in the Garden.” “It was of what her image sort of looked like and what she felt like, and that was interesting. [But] I didn’t go in and play the game to really see, because I’m not really into that so much.”

In “Silent Hill: Revelation,” Wolf an ostentatious priestess who serves as the main antagonist against Heather Mason, played by Adelaide Clemens. Although she didn’t spend time playing the game to get into character, Moss said that footage from the game was among the materials she used to get into character. “It definitely was part of the conversation with the director, looking at a lot of different footage. And then ultimately this crazy wig and this crazy costume helped me go, there I was!”

Moss previously appeared in the “Matrix” films, playing the ass-kicking, leather clad heroine Trinity. She explained that the costume and make-up is a crucial part of transforming herself into the character. “Oh, totally, right? It’s like you wouldn’t even know it was me,” Moss said. “And the dialogue, too. This woman was powerful and slightly insane, but a zealot who totally believed in what she was doing. So it was pretty intense.”

“Silent Hill: Revelation” also marked Moss’ first foray into 3D filmmaking, which she admitted was a bit of an adjustment from what she was familiar with. “That was a little bit tricky, because they had this 3D camera where you have to shoot things a few times,” Moss explained. “But it wasn’t that it was difficult, it was that it was something I hadn’t done before. Like, every director is a little different, but I know that there’s a way to do it technically. And then all of a sudden there’s this new technique added to it, which is a camera with X, Y and Z.”

“I can’t even remember if we had to be super still or whatever it was, but it was, oh wow, okay, it’s a whole new world of making movies.”

“Fireflies in the Garden” is being released on October 14, 2011.

I was disappointed to see she wasn’t interested in playing the game herself but found comfort in that she was at least shown footage to help her get into character. From her description of Claudia’s character: “powerful and slightly insane, but a zealot who totally believed in what she was doing” it at least seems like her portrayal will stay true to the Claudia we all know and love.

Descent into the Otherworld – A Spotlight on the Silent Hill Fandom, #1 Brandon Delacruz

Posted By: Whitney   September 29th, 2011 | 3:17 pm

UPDATE- PLEASE HELP BRANDON!

More info: https://shshatteredmemories.com/?p=11296

Hi guys! It’s time for something a little different here on Silent Hill Historical Society. As a big Silent Hill fan, I’m always curious to hear about how other fans found the series and how it’s impacted or inspired them.

For me, my love for the series started with the original Silent Hill back in 1999, thanks to a preview in a game magazine and from playing my older brother’s copy on Playstation. Over the past 12 years my love of the series has not waned and through it I’ve not only made some great new friends but have also discovered a passion for both blogging and recording podcasts which I never thought I would ever do!

During my time interacting with others in this fandom I’ve seen fans from all over the world and all walks of life and I just find it amazing how we all have this connection through a video game series.

Brandon Delacruz

But what exactly makes someone Silent Hill fan? How does the series impact others and what does the series mean to them? It’s these questions I hope to answer by highlighting a different Silent Hill fan every week or so to give a deeper and more personal insight into the Silent Hill fanbase!

To kick off this new series I would like to share an amazing story of a fellow fan that a friend of mine passed on to me just last week.

Meet Brandon Delacruz. He suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system, but through playing Silent Hill 2 he has been inspired to not only be a better person but has also given him solace during his frequent hospital stays:

You know what made my day today? This:

Dave Schaufele and Guy Cihi sign the SH2 rights waivers – Sept. 29, 2011
Very special thanks to Monica Taylor Horgan and Donna Burke for signing their waivers! Fans, you need to understand that this simply wouldn’t have been possible without the cooperation and support of Tomm Hulett, Devin Shatsky and Michael Ranja of Konami USA. Plus, I would like to issue a special note of gratitude to Michael Patrick Arnold of Silent Haven who worked selflessly behind the scenes to get everyone together on this, and make the Win-Win ending possible. I don’t think we could have done it without you, Mike!

-Guy Cihi

Thank you Tomm Hulett, Devin Shatsky, Michael Ranja of Konami USA and of course Mike from Silent Haven and Monica Taylor Horgan for their parts in bringing this happy day to all the Silent Hill fans.

Public Statement from Monica Taylor Horgan (Original Voice of Mary/Maria) Regarding the HD Collection Controversy

Posted By: Whitney   September 27th, 2011 | 11:20 am

Guys I loathe to chime in on all this business but in the interest in keeping the fragile progress we have made I would like to. It is my belief that the GOAL here is to get you guys the original voices on the game that you love. I wanted more information at the onset of all this and I went out and got it…from professionals who understand the talent business. At the time the game was made and released, I was considered a “professional” actor. I was on TV, on the radio, in games (many) and I had done work in the US and abroad (namely Japan). My voice has been used hundreds and hundreds of times. Here is what I DO know about royalties and residuals. Not once have I ever been paid any residuals for video games (or any voice work for that matter). And since the new HD game is now Konami US property, it is important to realize how it works in the US. I now live in LA and I have spoken (due to all this “controversy”) with 2 BIG agents (who specialize in video games) and the bottom line is that GAMES do NOT receive residuals. To quote a VIDEO GAME TALENT REP (agent): “IT IS NOT DONE.” Even famous, big-name Hollywood actors are paid once–no “back-end” deals. That aside, and to lend credit to claims that residuals have been earned for some people; Japan is like “The Old West” and deals can be made between agents, talent and companies that are off the grid and often are. Pay scales were radically different for different talent, there is NO UNION in Japan for VAs (called narrators there). If you had a smart, fast-thinking agent, you could have been paid more, or over time potentially. NO ONE knew SH2 would go on to its success. It is SO common to have something get big and then have all this squabbling about credit, compensation, motives, etc. But PLEASE…this whole business about discussing getting paid is putting a SERIOUSLY bad taste in my mouth.

Here it is folks: I would LOVE to have the old voices on SH2 as an option for fans. I will be at Konami to sign off on this as a reality tomorrow. My experience with them thus far has been totally relaxed, pleasant and light-hearted. And I am sure if I suggested “pizza and beer” they would be game for that too. I realize I am just one voice: but It was my understanding that this is what the fans would like so let’s make it happen!

HELL TO THE YES!!!!!!

Source (Monica Taylor Horgan on FB) thanks to Silent Haven for the tip!
