In this twenty-ninth episode I have an in-depth discussion with some of my friends about the game that started it all! We talk a bit about Silent Hill’s development, theories, share memories, and even go on a few tangents.
Part 07 of my Silent Hill Let’s Play is now online! In this episode Harry arrives to his original vacation destination and gets a little side tracked after an unexpected meeting.
Happy (observed) 20th Birthday* to Silent Hill! This series has had a big impact on my own life! It inspired me to make this fan site that lead to making some cool friends across the world, some veryfuntrips, and my love for the series even got me into the Guinness World Records lol 😄
The last 20 years have sure flown by!
How has the Silent Hill series impacted your own lives? What are some of your fondest memories?
Laurie Holden, Cybil Bennett in Silent Hill (2006), has been promoting her new movie Pyewacket (available for rent on Amazon) and took the time to answer some questions from fans on Facebook and Twitter.
Silent Hill Historical Society: How did you come to play Cybil in Silent Hill 2006? Were you recommended for the part by anyone?
Laurie Holden: I was actually on my way to India when I got a call from my agent that Carrie Ann Moss has dropped out of the movie because she was pregnant. (She was originally set as ‘Cybil’) I literally redirected my travel and within 3 days I was on set.
Luisina @holdenartist: Laurie, did you imagine that #Pyewacket was going to be so successful? What was the best thing about recording this movie? Thanks
Laurie Holden: You never know when you are shooting a film how it is going to turn out or if it will be received by an audience. That’s why it’s so important that you have an excellent script, a director with vision, and talented costars. If you have all of those elements…you do the best you can and just hope all your collective hard work pays off. In this case it paid off in spades. We are so thrilled the world has embraced our film. The critical acclaim has been extraordinary.
PRossman*HoldenOn @walkerdude13: How will The Americans end? JK – Laurie, on you new projects did you do anything that could end up on a gag/blooper reel? – Did you enjoy doing a voice for a cartoon and how does being an animated character compare to other roles – Does you still swim a lot? (Thanks for the Q&A)
Laurie Holden: Wow. That’s a LOT of questions!
Okay, firstly, “The Americans” is going to end in a way that will be talked about for years to come….THIS I can assure you.
Gag and blooper reels? I am sure there is something….I can definitely be a 5 year clown.
I loved doing the animated film, “Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad”,(particularly the character I voiced: Dakota) because she was such a ROCKSTAR. Literally. She’s one of The Top Dogs in all The Arctic. My character s like an old school celebutante dame in a lil’ doggie body ( if you can put that together in your head)…it was a ridiculous amount of fun!
I am happiest swimming. It’s been a cold winter here in NYC…time to get back in the pool soon. I can’t wait!
It’s Bailey @okay_living: Do you still keep in touch with the Walking Dead cast?
Laurie Holden: Yes, we see each other all the time 🙂
SHHS: Favorite role so far?
Laurie Holden: PYEWACKET
Taylor Hindman: I was actually just thinking about how much I loved your character in Silent Hill Laurie! What is you favorite film in general?
Laurie Holden:Too many films to choose from to pick one….I seriously have a list of about 50. I am a huge Steven King fan though…HUGE.
SHHS: Do you have any funny or memorable stories from on the set?
Laurie Holden: The most unforgettable memory for me on that film was when I WAS ACTUALLY BOUND to that ladder above those sticks at an EXTREME HEIGHT and was ACTUALLY LOWERED over that flame. There was NO STUNT DOUBLE…it was ME up there on that latter for TWO DAYS. It was terrifying. I had blackened ribs for over a week afterwards …I was just lucky I wasn’t impaled.

SHHS: Did you see any game footage of Cybil as inspiration for your role?
Laurie Holden: I thought it was essential to see the game footage as part of my preparation for the role. It was very helpful actually …watching her walk, observing her movements….It gave me a real sense of her essence. I wanted to authentically convey the character of Cybil that gamers had come to know and love.
Emily Ruddock: Laurie, what’s your best memory of working on Silent Hill?
Laurie Holden: Dancing with Rhada Mitchell and the Monsters 🙂
SHHS: Any cool upcoming projects?
Laurie Holden: I am coming out in Craig Zahlers’s “Dragged Across Concrete” (with Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn) later this year, and am one of the supporting characters in the animated feature “Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad.” Both have 2018 releases…so check them out!
Big thanks to Laurie for taking the time to answer all the questions 🙂

The first trailer for FoG Films live action feature film adapting Silent Hill & Silent Hill 3 video games, FROM THE LOST DAYS, has arrived! Fans may remember FoG Film’s first foray in the Silent Hill fan film territory with their adaption of Silent Hill 2, Broken Notes, back in 2008. Like Broken Notes, From the Lost Days will be shot in Spanish but will be subtitled in English!
I interviewed the director Alex Slevin about this film during their first Kickstarter campaign back in 2014 and I’m so excited that it is finally coming together. 🙂
