Will there be a “Making of” Silent Hill: Shattered Memories?

Posted By: Whitney   September 22nd, 2009 | 8:01 pm

Okay this is technically old News from July ’09… but it’s new to me!

I just came across a video showing a clip taken by a fan at Mary McGlynn 2009 Otakon panel (which you can read more about here) where she speaks a little about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Along with re recording some old silent hill songs they also filmed some “behind the scenes” stuff as well! I hope this means that there’s a “Making of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories” I wonder if that will be on the bonus soundtrack from Gamestop?

And a bonus! the fan also recorded Mary answering “What’s your favorite Silent Hill song”

The official Japanese Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Site is now live! Not a lot there are the moment but I’m sure they’ll put more up before the Tokyo Game Show!

The only bit I can really read is that Harry is apparently 30 years old!

Silent Hill Haunted Attraction

Posted By: Whitney   September 8th, 2009 | 9:38 pm

I got this postcard advertising a Silent Hill themed maze in October from some employees working the Konami booth at Comic Con ’09.  At the time I didn’t think much of the Silent Hill logo used since a nurse from Silent Hill Homecoming graces the front. However after taking a second look the other day I noticed it used the “Silent Hill”  from the final Shattered Memories logo! This makes me wonder… does Konami plan to do any sort of Shattered Memories promotion in or around the maze? If so that would be awesome!

Mary Elizabeth McGynn Discusses her role in Silent Hill Shattered Memories at Otakon 2009!

Posted By: Whitney   September 8th, 2009 | 9:21 pm

Last July Mary Elizabeth was a guest of honors and had her very own panel! I wish I could have been there (she needs to come to Fanime or Comic Con!) but luckily I was able to find a great write up with pictures of  her awesome panel by Serdar Yegulalp at Advance Media Nework Anime website 🙂 You can read the entire article here:

Otakon 2009: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn: Jill Of All Trades

http://anime.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=5557

Here are her quotes regarding the Silent Hill series and Silent Hill Shattered Memories:

Silent Hil fans also got another major boost: “I got to be a codirector on the next Silent Hill game. For the Wii, no less. It’s really gonna rock. I’ve been doing the songs for the series (there’s four more in the next game!) and you might want to preorder that one ‘cos there’s going to be some one of a kind bonus stuff I can’t tell you about.” (Anime fans quickly grow inured to, and twice as quickly learn to tell the difference between, “I can’t tell you” and “We have no plans at this time”.) “We’ll be recording it all in just a couple of weeks, and this is the first time we’ve done anything like this.

Now that we know the bonus is a soundtrack cd I’m wondering if some older Silent Hill tunes were re recorded?

Based on a quick show of hands, there were at least as many Silent Hill fans as there were GITS fans, so it came as little surprise that many questions revolved around everyone’s favorite Pyramid Head Franchise. One question — what were her favorite songs from the games? — evoked an interesting response: “We actually don’t know what the song titles are when we do them! But my favorite of the bunch — well, without knowing the title, it’s the one that goes ‘Here’s a lullaby to close your eyes –” and with that a good chunk of the (female) audience sang right along to great applause. Ditto when she crooned “Stare at the walls, they make fun of me”. (MEMO TO FUTURE CONVENTION ORGANIZERS: A panel of nothing but Mrs. McGlynn doing karaoke sing-offs of Silent Hill tunes would be a sell-out.)

As enthusiastic as she is about music — she was, by her own admission, a Band Brat in high school — she doesn’t do as much singing as you might imagine. There was talk of recording her own album but it never materialized, but: “What I’d live to do is talk to Akira [Yamaoka, the composer[ and release the best of the songs from that game, enough for a full album. It’s weird because right after I did the Silent Hill stuff I did a demo for a children’s audio book named ‘My Little Tree Frog’ and I kept thinking about that stuff done in the SH manner. ‘IT’S A TREEE FROOOOG!!'” (Cue audience convulsions.)”

Silent Hill Shattered Memories…at Comic Con 09?

Apparently I missed out trying Silent Hill Shattered Memories while attending Comic Con because some cam videos from Comic Con were posted on Gametrailers. I wish I could have played the demo! The clerks at the Konami booth told me they didn’t bring any demos to the show 🙁 I wonder what booth these were from?

In 411mania.com awarded Silent Hill Shattered Memories with their Best Wii game at e3 2009 in their First Annual Awards.

411 Best of e3 2009 Awards

“This re-imagining of the original classic once again lets us play as Harry Mason. While the game is a departure from the series we are used to. Players can do little more than shove off the monsters and run. The game gets intense, because these guys don’t let up. The choices you make can also affect the game as a whole. Nothing was specified, but according to Konami, playing the game one way could make Cybil a hard-nosed, tough as nails cop, while playing another could make her the “sexy” cop with the top of her shirt unbuttoned. The game could actually be a bit unsettling if played alone. It is definitely one of the Wii games to keep an eye on.”

Best Wii Game: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

The Wii isn’t just about minigame compilations and fitness routines. There was an impressive showing of Wii games this year at E3, and though they ranged from family-friendly to mature, the game that stood out the most was the reimagining of the original Silent Hill. Changing up the gameplay so that all you’re armed with is a trusty flashlight, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories made us remember how creepy the game was the first time around and reminded us that it’s possible to get your heart rate to go up without a Wii Balance Board.

Shattered Memories takes on a different approach to its story and gameplay, giving those who have played the original game a reason to reprise the role of Harry Mason as he searches for his daughter. Instead of requiring you to fend off the supernatural inhabitants of Silent Hill with makeshift weapons, the game is clearly creating the freakiest and most uncomfortable setting possible.

Even though we haven’t had a chance to sit down (in a dark room with no distractions) and get some true alone time with Shattered Memories, we found that we couldn’t tear ourselves away from this frightening world. Running from your pursuers and struggling to survive becomes an intense battle with your nerves, especially since the game has no combat. The experience at E3 left us wanting more, and we hope to return to the nightmarish town of Silent Hill as soon as possible.

GamePro’s E3 2009 Awards: The 27 Best Games

Silent Hill Shattered Memories was one of Gamepro’s selection of the top 27 Games at e3 2009. They seemed very intrigued by how the game can alters on your choices in the initial pysch questionare and decisions made in the game

“We got our hands on this Wii exclusive next installment in Konami’s bloodcurdling horror franchise and we have to say we’re quite impressed by what we saw. The game is far more than just a remake of the original as Shattered Memories big draw is its psyche profile you build for your character as you progress in the game. The first thing you do in a game is fill out a questionnaire, answering questions like “do you enjoy role-playing during sex” and “do you often relax with a drink.” This is just one of many ways the game is able to mold the game based on the decisions you make in the game. How you change the game ranges from small things like obtaining different objects to bigger things like actually encountering different characters. For instance, when you meet Cybil, the female cop from the original, she’ll either appear as a sexy cop with her shirt opened up a bit, or a swat-type hardass, or a more down to earth small town cop.”
