Happy “Sweet Sixteen” to my favorite entry in the entire franchise, the original Silent Hill! 16 years ago today was the start of an amazing series with its Jan 31, 1999 North American release! I can’t believe its been so long, it feels just like yesterday!

I feel like us fans of the original are rare. Such a wonderful game in every way. I really wish konami could afford to remake this for the PS4 after the release of the new installment. Anyway, wishful thinking. Happy Birthday!!!!

Yeah, people like us that know SH1 is the best for many reasons, even better than the masterpiece that is SH2, are rare. Unfortunately, this only makes harder for the industry to make more games like SH1.

However, I don’t agree with the remake. While I also would love a good, faithful remake (just the opposed to Shattered Memories), seeing the shape of things the last decade I certainly don’t want any modification of SH1.

For starters, it just isn’t possible to recreate the charm, magic, feeling… of SH1. Not even just changing the graphics and “copying” everything else. SH1 is what it is, and can’t and shouldn’t be modified in any way.

But it’s much worse when the videogame industry is like this nowadays and the developers are like they are right now. I don’t think even Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro will be capable of doing a “real” Silent Hill. Maybe a good game, but not a Silent Hill in the essence, in the soul. And if they can’t, nobody can. Much more complicated even is trying to recapture what makes SH1 what it is.

And the industry itself is doing really bad lately. Just look at how Konami or whatever company does to their most precious franchises. Just one title to remove the idea of a SH1 remake from any mind: “Silent Hill HD Collection”, also known as “The ultimate fail and insult to Silent Hill fans”. And that was just supposed to change slightly the textures and the voices!!

SH1 is unique and therefore can’t be emulated.
