Silent Hills – Won’t be out until 2016 and could have First Person PoV

Ooo so What if Gaming got a few tidbits about the new Silent Hill game from Kojima during a conversation at Gamescom 2014:
-
– Looks like we won’t see the new Silent Hill until 2016 which seems so far, FAR away but hey it will give me time to save up for a next gen console
– Kojima is deciding whether to make the game entirely first or keep it fixed third person with select areas in FPV. I really hope it’s the later given that playing in FPV makes me ill
Well… if they do decide to go in FPV the entire game I’ll have to use these next two years figure out a way to get more comfortable playing FPV. There’s no way I would let a little thing like simulation sickness get in the way of experiencing a new Silent Hill game!
Reading comprehension I haz it…
Whelp that’s a relief we will have a choice or limited FPV. Thanks Ethan! I’m a dork.
– The new game is most likely open world given that that’s what the Fox Engine is meant for. Kojima couldn’t go into more details as this time.
So what do you guys think? Are you more excited to play an entirely FPV Silent Hill or would you prefer a fixed third person view for the majority of the game like the previous titles?
Kojima actually said they are allowing a choice in perspective or fixed 3rd with some parts in 1st. Read it again!
Oh you are right I fail: “Hideo Kojima: Not sure yet. Development is cycling between either allowing players to choose to play the whole game in first person or third person, or keeping it fixed third person and having some areas be first person only. Either way we want to do something with first person. The game will not be out more than likely until 2016, lots of time left.”
I think that all silent hill games should be third person considering the main character’s themselves are a huge iconic part of the games. Like James, Heather and William you would know them well by how they look and if the game would be third person I feel it would ruin the experience for me and I am a huge silent hill fan.
It’s no big deal Whitney, it was something that was easy to miss if you were reading it fast. lol
As for the game itself…
Seems like gamers now days are accustom to first person horror games and of course the hardcore Silent Hill fans are going to want a 3rd person experience. They should make it a choice, that way everybody wins.
I was so excited when I first saw the trailer. But, now, honestly, “Silent Hills”… Well, this is so out of the mythology. And first personn??? What the hell??? O_o will it be a FPS? Will they add infiltration? No, no, no 🙁 please, don’t destroy even more our serie! Downpour was damn good despite some flaws. Make me even forget origins and homecoming (fortunately). I’m like you, I can’t play FPS. So, now….I’m curious and yet so afraid.
Oh, and I just love this website ^^
If P.T didn’t make every silent hill fan want Silent Hills to be entirely first person they are either ignorant or were too scared to be able to handle an entire game of it. First person is a more immersive point of view which makes you feel like you are in the game which makes it more scary. Third person separates the player from the experience in my opinion.
Thanks Lenny 🙂
“…didn’t make every silent hill fan want Silent Hills to be entirely first person they are either ignorant or were too scared to be able to handle an entire game of it.”
I’m neither ignorant or “too scared” (I never get scared playing a video game). I don’t want the new game to be entirely in first person because I suffer from simulation sickness. I would literally not be able to play the new game of the franchise I love if it was because it would make me nauseous for all the wrong reasons.
I kinda disagree with you, Daniel. Being in first personn doesn’t make me feel more like a part of the game or inside it. Quite the contrary, I feel like I’m being trapped in someone else body. And just seeing in front of me and my hands won’t help me identify to the character, quite the contrary. I’m a big gamer, play it since I’m 5 yeas old (and I’m 26 now) and I just can’t play first personn. Don’t know why, maybe because of simulation sickness too. Besides, I can’t even imagine one Silent Hill as a first person game, it’s not….right. And to reply to one of your argument, making a first person game will make Silent Hill a first person shooter…like Dead Island, Half-Life, Condemned (which is the only first person game I mange to end ; yeeeah, so proud :p…with cheat codes :/…ashamed). You can’t deny this, forst personn are action based (except for indie games on the Playstation Network or Puzzle/point’n’click Games). It’s not more immersive, it’s more violent, more action, more gory. And Silent Hill is based (at least was……. 🙁 ) on psychological horror. Anyway, I’d like to wander in the streets of Silent Hill with my little character, look around me, see him running for his life, looking at his face during cutscenes and in-gmae in order to see what it feels. This is something you cannot do with first personn. Actually, see and get to know your character, not being in his skin. I think that if P.T work as a first personn, it’s because it’s a short game. But I may be wrong, I don’t know. Kojima is a great guy (even if Metal Gear Solid are not first personn game except for some parts). I’m not ignorant either (thank you for telling me this :/), I just want the serie to keep on like it used to be. Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 and Downpour (which make me feel proud of Silent Hill again ^^). Let’s share our point of view, Daniel (and Whitney too of ocurse), this is what is interesting 😀
P.s 1 : I say all of this with kindness, don’t get it wrong 🙂
P.s 2 : I’m French so sorry if my english is noooooot perfect 🙂
I think it’s unfortunate that people have doubts about this game. Number 1, has anyone here actually played P.T? If you have, you’ve experienced the scariest haar’chakla game in years. If you haven’t… I’m so sorry. The point of P.T is to demonstrate that Hideo Kojima CAN make a scary game, CAN handle the horror and atmosphere of a silent hill like game, and CAN bring the series back to its glory days. P.T has demonstrated that my man Kojima (huge MGS fan by the way, he’s ner vod) has the ability to be just as scary as the original games were. Number 2, P.T was in first person solely because Kojima wanted to kick out any assumptions that P.T was a teaser for the new Silent Hill game. He wanted it to feel like one of those Amnesia/Outlast type indie games on Steam. If the main game is in first person, I won’t complain, although admittedly it just wouldn’t feel like a Silent Hill game. That’s my input, I just am a huge supporter of the whole Silent Hills concept. Thanks for taking your valuable time to read this, hope I offered something to think about. Retur’cye mhi ner vode, Oya Manda!
100% agrreing with you, Patrick 😀 I’m so eager to see what Kojima has in stock for us, Del TORRO too ^^ I have no doubts about KOJIMA and its team, I’m only questionning the first personn view. And as I told, it’s good for indie games (are we playing the same games Mister Patrick ;)?) or gory. But Silent Hill is not. Let’s wait and see, anyway :/ me, I would complain (a little) because it will not feel like a Silent Hill Game.
