SH:SM is nominated for:
· Award for Visual Excellence
· Award for Excellence in Sound
· Best Story
· Wii Game of the Year
ALL OF THEM.
I agree I hope the game wins them all!
I’m hoping it wins them all, if it doesn’t win best sound and story, I’ll be pretty annoyed.
It would be nice if the game wins all of them. Visual Excellence and Game of the Year will be tough to win against those other nominees. But the Excellence in Sound and Best Story, I’m pretty confident that Silent Hill will win 🙂
Objectively, I do agree it was a fine game for the Wii, perhaps the best for the console in 2009, although I have not played every single game released on the Wii this year (far from it in fact). The audio feedback I will delegate neutral-standing. However, the story was embarrassingly awful, probably even worse to non-Silent Hill fan players, and the graphics were not that much better than the original Silent Hill for the first PlayStation system (that is pretty bad ten years later in time). Nominations are thrown out like confetti on New Year’s Eve. Shattered Memories is deserving of none assuming Mario has not yet lost his lure (jokingly of course) to score game of the game.
@ Brandon: Speaking as someone who hated the wii Silent Hill should just get props for getting me to play 😉 I thought the graphics were FANTASTIC for the wii and waay better than PS1 graphics. I mean the characters had facial expressions! And they weren’t blocky. As for the story…how many times did you play it? SHSM has the most engaging story…I think it rivals even SH2…everytime I play it I get a different plot view it’s amazing. I plan to make a indepth write up on on my thoughts about the “true” plot a little later… trying to get all my thoughts together at the moment 🙂
I need to do a side by side comparison because the graphics did seem quite lackluster. One factor “professional” reviewers have creditability for is judging graphics, so I will re-read what they concluded it this fundamental piece, specifically.
I will start my second round soon, but I know the game is not drastically different from choices made for Dr. K’s lame lectures and tests.
And why hate the Wii? It’s got motion sensory controllers and Opera (you heard right, John)!
I though the graphics were great for the Wii, I’ve never seen such life-like character on the system. I’m amazed they accomplished this without loading screen or texture problems. As for the story, I thought it was the most engaging storyline in a video game, that I’ve ever played.
Whitney, I’m looking forward to your write-up and thoughts on the plot.
I think that Silent Hill has the best Wii graphics considering its a “realistic” game+ it’s 3D, which NSMBWii obviously isn’t.
It should obviously also get best story, as many of the Wii story’s are no-brainers (especially NSMBWii).
Don’t know about audio…
(for those who didn’t get it: NSMBWii=new super mario bros Wii)
@ Brandon
SHSM graphics > PS1 SH graphics
“but I know the game is not drastically different from choices made for Dr. K’s lame lectures and tests.”
Yes it is. The whole story changes based around what you do. Your surroundings change, echo messages change, Harry changes…there’s a bunch of changes!
@Jon: Awesome, I hope to get it up sometime this week!
@Anton: Agreed!
@Brandon
