Brian Gomez Leaves Vatra and the Silent Hill Team

Posted By: Whitney   November 3rd, 2011 | 1:00 pm

On October 31, 2011 Brian Gomez officially stepped down from being a Design Director at Vatra Games and is no longer working on Silent Hill Downpour. This is some saddening news but Brian assures me that Silent Hill fans should not fret!

Hi Whitney, I just wanted to give you a heads-up that today is officially my last day with Vatra Games and the Silent Hill team.

When it was announced that Downpour was being delayed to 2012, my family and I came to the decision that I couldn’t keep making the commute between Los Angeles and Brno for another 4-6 months. Downpour is so close to completion, there’s not a lot more that I can personally do for the project that Devin, Tomm, and Marek Berka cannot handle on their own. I gave my notice a few weeks ago, setting Halloween as my last day. (Seemed fitting!)

With such long stints away from the family his descision is completely understandable in my opinion and as a fan I have full confidence that he has left Downpour in not only good place but in good hands as well. 🙂

So what will be in store for Brian in the future?

A lot! He has many cool new projects in the works (and without the long stays away from his family!) but nothing he can discuss in detail at this very moment.

Being such a survival horror nut myself I asked if any of these projects will be survival horror related and I was happy to hear they are!

Yes, you can rest assured that some of the projects I’m looking at are survival horror related. There’s a lot of things I still want to do in this genre that Konami simply didn’t let me do.

I wish Brian the best of luck with his new ventures! I can’t wait to see his work with Downpour in the flesh this March (woot!) and I look forward to hearing more about what he have in store for horror gaming!

For anyone wanting to keep up to date on Brian’s future en devours you should definitely follow him on twitter! @briangomez

Posted By: Whitney   November 1st, 2011 | 12:02 am

IGN posted some new screens for Silent Hill Book of Memories and in them we see familiar monsters from Silent Hill games past. In the screens I spot: Insane Cancer (SH3), Needlers (SHH), Nurse (SH2), Scisims… I think (SHH), Air Screamer (SH1), Double Heads (SH3), is that Valtiel? (SH3), The Butcher (SH0), Patient Demon? (SH2) AND Howard from Downpour I wonder what he’s doing in this game?

Akira Yamaoka and Jeff Danna to compose for Silent Hill: Revelation

Posted By: Whitney   October 31st, 2011 | 8:35 pm

What a nice Halloween treat! Michael J Bassett revealed on his blog today that Akira Yamaoka and Jeff Danna will work together and compose music for Silent Hill: Revelation!

You’ve waited a long time for this announcement, so I figured it was about time I told you all that Jeff Danna along with Akira Yamaoka will be composing the score for Silent Hill 2. Still a few details to be ironed out but I’m confident that nothing stands in the way. I’m really pleased it’s the same team as the first movie as I thought that was a damn fine score. Obviously Akira is one of the greatest game sound designers and composers and he’s a fundamental part of what made Silent Hill the greatest series of survival horror games ever created. Jeff is a hugely gifted composer who has immersed himself in the Silent Hill universe so knows how to bring it all together for cinematic purposes. Together they’re going to blow us all away. Quite how they’re going to work is yet to be decided but I’m raring to get into this part of the process to start hearing what they come up with.

Anyway, just thought you’d like to know. I’ll share some details of our progress as it all develops.

LOL Ghost Adventures Referenced Silent Hill!

Posted By: Whitney   October 29th, 2011 | 2:10 am

So I like watching the show Ghost Adventures on the Travel channel. I actually watch a lot of paranormal investigation shows since I actually believe in ghosts and I like to see what sort of evidence people can find. Sure a lot of these shows are staged or whatever but I still think they are fun to watch! Ghosts Adventures is my favorite because the crew: Zak, Nick and Aaron are just so dramatic at times it’s hilarious. I can’t always count on being wowed by their “evidence” but I sure can always be wowed by their theatrics which is a win-win in my mind! Hehe

Any-hoo I was watching tonight’s new episode, “Letchworth Village,” with my sister and near the end of their lock down a siren kept going on and off in the distance. I looked at my sister and jokingly said, “Oh no! The Silent Hill Otherworld is coming to get them!” We chuckled at my lame joke but then a few seconds later we were surprised when the show actually mention Silent Hill in relation with the siren they were hearing. Sure they actually mention the Silent Hill Movie and not the game but I still thought it was funny the similarity was even brought up on the show!

I got a kick out of the random reference so I thought I would share the clip with you all 🙂
