IGN posted some new screens for Silent Hill Book of Memories and in them we see familiar monsters from Silent Hill games past. In the screens I spot: Insane Cancer (SH3), Needlers (SHH), Nurse (SH2), Scisims… I think (SHH), Air Screamer (SH1), Double Heads (SH3), is that Valtiel? (SH3), The Butcher (SH0), Patient Demon? (SH2) AND Howard from Downpour I wonder what he’s doing in this game?
While visiting Konami Cj and I were given the opportunity to interview Jeremy Blaustein the voice over/motion capture director and translator for Silent Hill 2-4. It was a great honor to speak with someone so involved in the series! We hope you enjoy 🙂

Last week Konami informed me that the upcoming Silent Hill multiplayer, Book of Memories, for Playstation Vita will involve a very familiar face, Jeremy Blaustein! For those who don’t know Jeremy is one of the original members of “Team Silent” who helped localize Silent Hill 2 – 4 and also directed all the VO and motion capture work!
Jeremy and his company Zpang will localize Book of Memories into seven different languages. There isn’t a list of what languages just yet but when I had his ear in a phone interview on Thursday (coming soon!) I did ask if Arabic maybe one of them…unfortunately it’s not.

Well this is very exciting, Silent Hill Experienced, the Silent Hill podcast I co-host with Austin and Destiny, was able to snag an email fan interview with Downpour producers Devin Shatsky and Tomm Hulett! We wanted to share this opportunity so we invited fans of the podcast to submit their own questions over on our facebook fan page and on the Silent Hill Community forums as well.
This interview mainly consists of Downpour related questions but it does touch on the future of the series and a bit of both the HD Collection and Book of Memories. We want to thank Devin and Tomm again for taking the time from their busy schedules to do this. We hope you enjoy! (more…)
We sit down and discuss all the Silent Hill news from Gamescom 2011 including the new info on Silent Hill Book of Memories; Downpour screens and sneak peek as well as the new voices for the HD Collection. It’s a loooong one folks! I hope you enjoy!
Unfortunately Destiny had to leave half way through our podcast so the later half is just me, Austin, Cj and Jason discussing the HD collection but don’t you worry will hear Destiny’s view on the voices 🙂
Listen to the podcast over on the Silent Hill Experienced website:
Sorry for the delay on this news you guys I was super busy at work all day yesterday and I am just now getting all caught up on all the new Silent Hill stuff!
Silent Hill Book of Memories Gameplay Footage
Okay it was nice to see some of those screens in action, a closer look at the character concept art and to hear more about the game’s premise. I think the story is actually pretty interesting so far: You recieve a book that contains you entire life story within the pages – your memories (hey I think I know where they got the title lol…), future maybe? Anyway the book is all about you and if you alter the text you can change reality and your own history and you will have to deal with the ramifications. Sounds pretty interesting to me! We also learned that there will be creatures from Silent Hill’s past titles, along with limited resources, creepy atmosphere and scare rooms.
From watching the footage it seems like there’s some RPG elements there as the guy in the orange cap seemed to perform some sort of magical attack. I’ll be honest here I raised an eyebrow I didn’t expect to see something like that in a Silent Hill game. Now I’m wondering how it will tie in with the rest of the normal melee and fire arsonal (shotgun, knife, cleaver, fists, pipes, etc). Will everyone have this sort of power or only certain character types?
Overall I can’t say I’m that excited for this title as it seems a big departure in terms of game play from the rest of the series. That’s not to say it doesn’t look like it could be fun, I would still love to try it but I see it so far as being in the same category as the Silent Hill Playnovel, those Silent Hill Cellphone games and the arcade game. What do you guys think?
Silent Hill Downpour Sneak Peek
This game seems to get better and better every time I see new footage which has me super hyped for it’s release later this year. The music in the brief little sneak peek was nice and I have to say I have a lot more questions about Murphy’s character…seems like he’s not popular with the guards or the other inmates. I wonder what he did…
Also what’s with all the rape faces given to Murphy lol?
We have a gained a bit more information and screens on the upcoming Book of Memories the Silent Hill Vita multiplayer game being developed by WayForward during the Konami Gamescom 2011 Press Conference!
The game will have a top-down or isometric perspective, which is typically seen in role playing games but that’s not to say this hasn’t been used in a horror genre before! This view was also used in, Sweet Home, a Capcom Japan-only survival horror RPG Nintendo back in 1989. Despite the RPG like view the game still give people chills and was even later given credit as an inspiration for Capcom’s blockbuster Resident Evil!
Back during E3 2011 we learned that Book of Memories would be it’s own story unrelated to past Silent Hill titles, this probably because the game will give you the option to create your own protagonist. The video during the press conference showed three custom characters with the names Harry, Maria and James 🙂
From the screens it looks like we can make characters look a bit like Travis from Silent Hill Origins (it’s the hat that made me think that), Murphy from Downpour (green jumpsuit) and on the other end of the spectrum some sort of gothic chick. Additionally these screens also give us a peek at some of the enemies, nurses make a comeback and is that a Needler from Homecoming I see? Oh yeah, Pyramid Head going be in this too…ugh…but hey at least he’s not in Downpour!
According to Joystiq, Book of Memories will feature melee combat, guns and “what appears to be a smattering of RPG elements.” I’ll let you know if I find out any new information!
According to the latest Konami press release we now have confirmation (in writing) that Silent Hill Book of Memories will be the first ever co-op multiplayer Silent Hill title!
If you are worried that the gameplay will be like the multiplayer mode in lets say Call of Duty there’s no reason to worry. From the description given in the press release it sounds like this will still be an intimate gaming experience with just you and a friend working together to survive and escape Silent Hill. It’s probably going to be similar to the Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen partnership in Resident Evil Zero just with two players instead of switching between the two in a single player mode.
Silent Hill: Book of Memories is the first KONAMI title to be confirmed for the forthcoming PlayStation Vita portable device, and is also the first ever multi-player Silent Hill title. The game will feature an all-new scenario and soundtrack, and links past and present events in the series in one game. Working with a friend, players are left stranded in Silent Hill, where they must work together in order to escape the town and its inhuman denizens.
Aditionally Joystiq broke the news that WayForward, an American studio based in Valencia, California, is working on Book of Memories.
We’ve got another marginal detail about Silent Hill: Book of Memories for you. During an E3 showing of downloadable splatterfest Bloodrayne: Betrayal, WayForward designer and director Sean Velasco briefly discussed the company’s expanding slate of games — which now includes a new Silent Hill game for PlayStation Vita.
Velasco didn’t divulge much, only describing Book of Memories as a “left-field” part of the prolific developer’s upcoming lineup. A “left-field” multiplayer Silent Hill game? Scariest licensed baseball game ever.
“Left-field” sure is right! I took a look at their game history and the developers have a lot of experience in the handheld game market but nothing in their repertoire seems to be within the survival horror genre. Needless to say I’m really interested in seeing what sort of Silent Hill game they will come up with, I hope will get some video or screens in the next couple months!
At the special VIP even Konami revealed that the upcoming Silent Hill: Book of Memories for Sony’s upcoming Vita will be the series’ multiplayer debut. Brandon Cox actually hinted this to me on Thursday at the pre E3 event (but I couldn’t post about it until this morning 🙂 ) and I think it is pretty awesome I’m excited to see how this series will translate into a multiplayer experience.
Additionally, as I mentioned last night we have confirmation from Rely of Horror that Silent Hill HD Collection will also have new voice overs. Very exciting!!!
