A Boy?

A Boy were four downloadable scenarios, named season and were add-ons for Silent Hill Play Nove. They all stared a brand new character named Andy but since these were not part of the original cartridge and Konami has since ended the download service Andy’s full story has since been lost.

Even though his scenario is gone Andy is still somewhat present in the game. During Cybil’s scenario it’s possible to see and interact with Andy who is found drowning in an aqueduct. After Cybil and Cheryl rescue Andy from the aqueduct he tries to push Cheryl in the water yelling it was her who pushed him in there in the first place. Cybil attempts to stop him and in the process finds herself in the aqueduct herself and loses consciousness.

Other than this brief cameo the only only glimpse we have of the boy’s scenario is from a couple screenshots and story branch chart detailing the first GBA download, the Spring scenario, which was printed in the official Play Novel guidebook.

A Boy: Spring Scenario

Unlike Harry and Cybil’s scenario’s the Spring is pretty is pretty short and sweet with only two possible endings. Andy is the Mason’s neighbor and harbors a crush on and even though they attend the same school and live near one other Andy hasn’t mustered the courage to speak with her.

When Andy finally decides to give speaking to Cheryl she and her father are preparing to leave for their trip and at some point sneaks himself into the back of Harry’s jeep. After Harry’s crash and Cheryl’s disappearance Andy wanders into the foggy town to find her.

The Spring has two open-ended endings since it’s there were still three other scenarios: Summer, Fall and Winter that would continue Andy’s journey in Silent Hill. The first ending involves Andy staring out into a large chasim fearing that if Cheryl had fallen down there he would be unable to help her. As tears weld up in his eyes Andy hears the approach of someone in loafers (my guess is Alessa) but he is unable to turn to see who it is because strangely his body in unable to move.

In the second ending as Andy’s eyes weld up with tears the ground beneath him suddenly crumbles away and he falls and rolls to the bottom of the steep incline and is unable to move for a while…and that’s it!

It’s maddening not to know the rest of Andy’s tale and I’m surprised a Silent Hill fan living in Japan hasn’t already shared how it all played out. It might have been fun to explore the town as a child and I’m left wondering how would Andy have handled the creatures too. Would he have met up with Harry at some point? Who really pushed him into the aqueduct but with the download content lost I guess we will never know…
