There are two slightly different version of this US edition. Some have a more muted silver front cover with the collage on the front with a very low contrast. I assume people who preordered or bought the game early enough were able to get their hand on this edition. The next batch still had the black Playstation spine but the cover became a high contrast black and white image. This and the US Greatest Hits edition of Silent Hill are the only ones to contain the “Grey Child” monsters.

Unlike the American edition the Japanese release contains no “Grey Child” monsters and they are replaced by “mumblers.”

This PAL release of Silent Hill was unfortunately censored like the Japanese edition and Grey Children monsters in Midwich Elementary were removed and replaced by Mumblers. Even though it was censored the PAL release did include an in-game article regarding the fire Alessa was burned in that was not included in the US or Japanese release. You can find the article in Nowhere on the 3rd Level. I’m not sure why it wasn’t included on the US or Japanese releases.
