I've been mulling this story over in my head (and writing out a timeline as a bit of a side project for myself), and while I think I have the general sequence of events figured out, there's one bit that really confuses me- when Becky gives the locket, shoe, and letter to Diane (incriminating George, although his identity remains unknown), why on earth does Diane give the locket over to Carol so easily?

The overheard conversation:
CAROL: Like I said, there's no point in you having this! I can put it to far better use! I'm taking it with me! Okay?

DIANE: That's fine by me, then. As you wish.

Has she not read the note yet? Admittedly, Carol is incredibly insistent, but regardless, Diane is completely nonchalant about something that her sister has obviously entrusted her with. It's one of those things that just doesn't fit together, especially in conjunction with Diane's later conversation (that she believes Carol is jealous because she [Diane] slept with a man Carol was attracted to/involved with).

Your thoughts?

I always wondered why she handed it over so easily too. Diane did seem rather cold though... I mean after Becky's death she still went and had lunch with Polly and drinking with Nick and never displayed distress about losing her sister :( She did seem surprised right before George attacked her...so maybe the note revealing everything was misplaced somehow?
